Hi Guys - I have a hot pixel which creates a vertical line on the RHS of my CCD.

If I use the dither function ideally I don't want the camera to take pictures with two vertical columns matching up.
If I use the random or enhanced dither which will give me the best results to counter the effects of a hot pixel column?

The image of the enhanced option in the manual shows a number of shots in the same columns.

Regards

Monte

See this note on dithering: http://www.hiddenloft.com/notes/dithering1.htm

You can see the dithering patterns for both options. If you truly have a bad column that doesn't dark subtract out (most will), then neither dithering technique will solve the problem of a bad column since there are occasions of x value (column) overlap.

That being said, there is a "hidden" option that I used to overcome a collection of weak columns with an old camera. If you go to the Dark Fames page, check Series 6, enter the letters "FLI" in the description and then uncheck Series 6, you will get a horizontal displacement that will prevent column overlap and may solve your problem. Be sure to enter the letters "FLI" in caps, exactly as indicated.

Before resorting to this option, verity that the dark column does not dark subtract out.

Hi John - There is a cool plug for CCDStack that cleans up columns really well. If I use this and then combine the dithered images from your Algorithm Generated series. It may be enough to hit it on the head. Have you considered making a series where no two columns or rows match up or would this "use up" too much detector space in a long series of images?
