Autoguiding failures cause enough time wasted on my otherwise well functioning system.

Usually it happens after a focus run, the mount returns to the target, but for some reason even after the slew correction its off enough that the guide star isn't in the guide window, so...:

Seems to me an error/cancel/re-acquire threshold (user selectable) would be a good option.

Let's say I input an error threshold of 6 pixels in this hypothetical CCDAP setting, any deviation past 6 pixels would cause CCDAP to start guide star re-acquisition. I can't tell you how helpful that would be in my case, probably others experience my woes as well on occasion.

regards,

john t.

I quite often have this problem as well. I was thinking it would be helpful if after any telescope slew, the first guider image would be full frame instead of the small guidebox, so that the guidestar is more easily reaquired.

Thanks

John and Scott,

I have your suggestion coded but need to test it a bit under the stars and the winter storms are coming into southern AZ one after another. Once I have exercised it a bit, I'll roll out the change.

How do we ensure that the same guide star is selected and if a different star is selected how will that impact the dithering?

As it has in the past, so it will now select the brightest star in the FOV. Assuming your plate solve after precision slew is successful and accurate, you will be returned to the same point you were before this change. Similarly, dithering will not be changed from the way it works now.
