I am trying to track down a problem I'm having with "initialization". I think it started after updating to 3.42.6., but that might just be a red herring. The initialization seems to go normally until it gets to the point where it calibrates the autoguider. The problem is that after taking the autoguider image of the guide star, it skips calibration and just asks if I want to save the new profile. Has anyone observed this?

Hi Richard,

I'll check this out tonight just to be sure. What camera control program and guide mode are you using?

Hi John
I am using MaxIm v.4.62 and the mode is "Self Guided".

The whole story is a lot more complicated so I first wanted to be sure that the update was not causing a problem.

Another issue I had last night when using 3.42.6 was that the "Get" function was not updating the P.A. in the target list. I spent a lot of time working that problem. At one point, I got an error message saying two FOVI's were selected. The funny thing is that I am sure only one was turned on. In any event, I turned all FOVI's off and turned one on. That seemed to solve the problem. After fixing the "Get" function, I tried to "initialize" the system. That is when I ran into the calibration problem. I did the usual things like checking for extra processes running, rebooting the computer, etc., but nothing helped.

Is there some way I could go back to an earlier update? It will be clear tonight and I hate to waste the whole night doing debugging!

Thanks,
Richard

Hi Richard,

I doubt the change for 3.42.6 affected anything you are seeing but attached is the 3.42.5 .exe. Put it in C:\Program Files\CCDWare\CCDAutoPilot3 in place of the one that is there. Turn off automatic updating first.

John, I went back to the previous version (3.42.5) and the autoguider initialization problem has not occured. Time to do some imaging!

John,
I too have been pulling my hair out with 3.42.6. Initialiation with Maxim and my ST8XME simply does not work properly. I reverted to 3.42.4 and it works fine. Here is what happens during initialization:
Plate solve works fine, then guider calib:
Guide exposure taken
guide expsure taken again.
Watching Maxim, there is no movement back and forth or any additional exposures. There is a perfectly good guide star right on screen.
Msg comes up right after above exposure: Calibration complete, do you want to save the profile?

During imaging with this, you get 4 quick failures to get a guide star and CCDAP reverts to Unguided operation.

I lost a couple of days on this, and am getting back to some imaging now!

(I may have to get out my Orion Autoguider again - I think that this caused my problem with that too since I upgraded right before installing it).
