Hi,
I am a new user of CCDAutoPilot 3. I am not using a filter in front of my SBIG 2000XCM one-shot colour camera, so the lightframe series contain empty filter sets. I cannot even set it to one, even if in MaximDL I use a simulated camera and filter to test. With no series included I do not get an error message, but setting one series to e.g. a light exposure of 180 seconds, I get the error "One or more series has a blank filter. Review settings in Lights and Darks tabs." The run will abort. What can I do to sort this out? This message has been edited. Last edited by: sjjan, |

Additionally: when using CCD Navigator in combination with CCDAP3, how to get rid of the filter settings and warnings/terminations that the filters are set wrong when using a one-shot colour camera (in my case from SBIG)?

You can work around this issue by setting the filter wheel to simulator. I will add this to the investigation list.

The code should have caught the no filter wheel condition. What was your filter wheel setting in Maxim's setup tab?

Also, see the Hint in the help system's Troubleshooting topic.

Hello John,
I tried several settings, but even simulating the camera and filter wheel in MaximDL will not solve this issue. Also in CCD Navigator (which I bought due to problems importing SNP text files into CCDAP3) there is a camera tab which assumes that the camera is using a filter wheel. Even if I set the time of each non-light filter to 0 seconds, it will creat series with 4 entries for each of the filters. I am using the new SBIG ST-2000XCM self-guiding CCD camera, which is a one-shot colour camera. As a focusser I am using the finger lakes DF-2 focusser with FocusMax. As software I am using primarily MaximDL. Any help is appreciated. I am trying to automate a Messier marathan competition here in Holland, Europe next weekend by automating the shooting of about all the M objects using your software. It would be great if it worked as well as a good advertisement of your software. |

The error message I already get then on the "settings" tab en clicking on "connect" (even when only planning and even when selecting "none" as camera setting or MaximDL otherwise) is: "One of more series has a blank filter. Review settings in Lights and Darks tabs." When going to the series I see the filter popup, but cannot choose anything there. Also not when simulating the filter wheel in MaximDL.

I did look through the help and troubleshooting parts. Also looked through the support forum and documentation and even Google would not be helpfull here. :-)

John,
Thanks for sharing the Messier target list! That will help. Also had a look at your own setup at your home. Noticed you were using a Finger Lakes camera. Are you happy with it? Would you prefer to buy again the FL camera instead of SBIG? Greetings, Sjoerd Jan |

SJ,
Web site needs updating. FLI camera is long gone. I have an Apogee U16M. There is a review on my site here: http://www.hiddenloft.com/notes/apogee/u16m.htm Very satisfied with both the camera and the company. John CCDAutoPilot author |

Hi, the results of the Apogee U16M are very nice.

But still looking for a way to use CCDAP3 without a filter wheel. The filter wheel popup is empty on the sessions page and not having a filter wheel chosen will abort the run and thus not allowing me to use the application. Whatever I set, I do not have an option to select a filter wheel. Also not using a simulated filter wheel and camera in MaximDL. Even if I add one target by hand instead of importing it from CCDNavigator it will immediately warn me that I have a problem being no filter selected. The problem is: there is NOTHING to choose in the filter settings, no RED, GREEN or BLUE filter whatsoever. It is just blank (=white) with no text and option available. So, what to do now?

Hello John,
I checked the complete post and even copied the exe file, renamed the older exe files and fired it up. I do not get errors with the profile but the filters popup remains empty but not grayed out and the error message of a blanc filter is still there preventing further use of the application. Hope you can find a solution. Sincerely yours, Sjoerd Jan |
