Hi Ray,
Am experiencing another little exercise in trying to get to a successful PEC assessment. At the end of a calibration run I encountered the subject error message, "Invalid FITS file", and the file did not automatically open in the viewer. There was no further explanation. The "Trails.Fit" file had been successfully created and placed in the designated receiving folder. When I tried to manually open the file in the viewer the same message, "Invalid FITS file" was displayed, and it would not open. However, when I went back to the CCDSoft screen I found the file was displayed there...indeed it was a quality pix of star trains. (The same set of circumstances repeated again after I moved to another star and executed another calibration run.) This scenario is puzzling to me because I used mag 6.2 and 6.5 stars, respectively, in the two runs. Both were perfectly centered in the CCDSoft crosshairs just prior, and just after, the exposure by the calibration routine. Hope you can help with some more excellent guidance. Many thanks, RonM |

Hi Ron,
First, please be sure you are running the very latest version of CCDSoft v5.00.188. CCDSoft is saving the file as a GIF or TIFF instead of a FITS file. In CCDSoft, look under "server settings". There is a checkbox that says "make a GIF copy". If that box is checked it will cause this problem. -Ray Author of PEMPro |
