Poor Seeing
Posted
Hi

I'm new to the idea of PEC. So my question is. How do I veiw and backup my PEC from my mount for safe keeping before my make changes to it? I have a Ioptron PR/EQ. On the hand controller I have the following PEC selections: PLAY, RECORD AND ERASE.I use Ascom for guiding and have a meade DSI3c. I just would like to be able to get back to where I started in case things do not go so good.

This is a relatively new mount so I don't know that there is any way to read the contents of the controller. Most mounts cannot do that.

You can however turn PEC off from the Ioptron hand controller and record periodic error with PEMPro. In that case you would have a record of the mount's periodic error.

Then you can create a PEC curve, start playback in PEMpro, and enable record in the hand controller to program the mount's PEC.

Hi Ray

I guess I really did not understand about PEC. After reading the pdf file more carefully ,I see that it is the periodic error that I am after. So if I have this right, it the harmonic freqs in the periodic error that I trying to correct with PEC. Spurious freqs represent possible mech problems. Is that correct?

Yes, "possible" problems. Looking at the frequency spectrum can give you insight where to look. If you see higher frequency components the first place to look is the motor box gears. It could be a loose or out of round sprocket gear.

Also mounts with stepper gears might show a frequency at it's movement interval or a multiple of that interval (the Orion EQ-6 mount I have has such a frequency at 1.2 second intervals).

Here's some detail on how to use the frequency spectrum feature in PEMPro V2:
