Excellent Seeing |
If you're a CCDWare home page watcher, you'll already know this but but last night John put up the new web information for CCDNavigator2. I hope you'll give it a download and report any problems or suggestions you might have here. The improvements are described on the webpage so I won't repeat that here except to say that it is a total rebuild that I began back in February.
I'm leaving for the Advanced Imaging Conference (AIC) thursday 10/29 and won't be back home until tuesday 11/3. I should be able to check in here a few times per day but I will be busy all day and into the late evening there so please be patient. Steve... CCDNavigator Author |

Congrats Steve! I know you worked very hard to make Navigator the best possible planning tool available. The new features are well thought out, and easy to understand. I look forward to planning months of sessions here in cloudy PA

Poor Seeing |
I gave it a try last night. Looks like there are a lot of nice improvements.
Maybe I did something wrong but when I switched to the Deep Sky Explorer Catalog, all of the color thumbnails from the Advanced Imaging Catalog went away. When I tried to go back to the Advanced Imaging Catalog, no thumbnails displayed. |

Thanks Chris! Cloudy nights are a good time to do your planning but too bad there are so many of them!
WAVM - I'm assuming that the first line in the main screen said "0 targets meet your criteria using Default profile". (profile name might be different). If that's the case, then probably your Criteria are set to values so no objects qualify as targets. Check the Criteria menu and for now just turn on "Transit During Darkness" and turn off "Use Extended Criteria". That should get you some targets. Then you can play with the criteria to set up what you really intend for target selection controls. When you do that, be sure that "Catalogs" "Classifications" has some object types turned on and the same for "Constellations". If all class and constellations are turned off but Extended criteria is on, you'll never get any targets presented. Let me know how it goes please. Steve... CCDNavigator Author |

I downloaded 2.0 and installed it today. all seems to work fine so far except the preview buttons which give me an error in easyview that says "input value for pixels not valid" and wont show me an image. there must be a settings for skyview but I cant find them. I have skyview on my computer as a stand alone program and it has a settings box which i dont find in ccdnavigator. thx

ok--i have narrowed my problem with the preview (skyview) buttons to the "choose and calibrate fovi" process. I think i am doing it right but when i do the skyview doesnt work. I click on the button, sky 6 opens, i right click on a corner of the camera fovi indicator and left click on the center of the indicator and then click ok. after i do that the preview buttons give me the error i mentioned in previous post. Somehow the pixel settings is not xfered to skyview--where are those settings entered?

The next release checks the camera size after calibration and will issue a message if it's ZERO due to not centering the corner of the camera. I'm not going to put it up until there are a few more things found and fixed.
Shogun, thanks for finding and reporting this! Steve... CCDNavigator Author |

Good Seeing |
There are many improvements in Nav2 - thanks.
I would like to see this change made, however. Here's my example: IC434 window tells me it's available for 6hrs 51min, which is the time from zero elevation at 22:32 until Dark End at 05:23. The real available time, above the green horizon line until Dark End, is closer to about about 4 hours 20 minutes. On my Site window the red Min Elevation and the green Horizon lines plot at ~28 to ~30 degrees. Therefore, on the IC434 window I think the Available time shown should be From ~01:00 Until 05:23. Thanks Dave Bailey |

I found it!
I needed to check Use Extended Criteria in the Criteria window. The IC434 window now correctly says availability is 4hours 40minutes instead of 6hours 51minutes. Thanks Dave Bailey |
