Hello.
I am evaluating CCDNavigator and I have run into a problem. When I import my horizon data from TheSky I get a similar looking profile but the altitude values of the obstructed horizon are higher at each azimuth value in CCDNavigator. Can you help? Thank you. Gordon |

Hi Gordon,
Attach a copy of the Sky6 horizon file (normal.hrz or other, whatever you imported) and also a copy of the "Profile.cfg". The latter file can be found in My Documents/CCDWare/CCDNavigator/Settings. Also let me know what version of Sky6 Pro you're using. Then I can take a look and try to reproduce the problem. Steve... CCDNavigator Author |

Gordon,
Never mind, I see that it's doing as you describe, higher values. In Sky6 I created a horizon that peaked at about 20 degrees but the imported version peaks at around 35 degrees. This used to work fine, I must have introduced a bug. But I haven't touched this part of the code (knowingly) in quite a long time. Watch for an update in a few days. Steve... CCDNavigator Author |

Hi Steve.
Thank you. Where would I look for the update? Gordon |

Just watch this forum for an announcement, it'll have a link. All updates are placed on the CCDWare website in the "Downloads" section.

Hi Steve.
After sucessfully importing my local horizon into CCDNavigator I have additional questions. My local horizon is relatively obstructed but there are no obstructions (other than a brief excursion behind the my chimney) that would only temporarily obstruct a target. In other words, once an object clears an obstruction in the East it will remain visible until it is obscured by the obstructed horizon in the West. With that explained, here is my question. In CCDNavigator, it seems that in the "Target Section area," the "Available From" and the "Available Until" does not take into account the obstructed horizon in the East or West (other than marking the line in the "Target Transit and Availability" section with cross marks). Is there a way to indicate more accurately when a target is availble based upon the criteria I set up, taking into account my local horizon limitations? Also, in the "Target Selection" section, is there a way to limit the target select to specific types of objests like emission nebulae? This would be helpful on nights when the Moon would interfer with broadband imaging but when conditions would allow for narrowband (i.e. hydrogen alpha) imaging? Thank you. Gordon |

Gordon,
Obstructions do not effect any of the times in CCDNavigator. In the Transit and Availability Graph, "X"s will appear when the target is behind an obstruction. It is up to you to adjust the start/end times in the session plan to avoid them. Presently there is no feature for filtering by targets such as emission nebula but it is on my list for future addition. Steve... CCDNavigator Author |
