I am evaluating the demo version of CCDInspector 1.2.0.

All features appear to function except the 3-D Plot Feature.

When I select an image file and click the 3-D Plot command button, the frame of the window pops up but there is no 3-D image. Instead, the window that pops up contains an image of the underlying desktop.

I am running Windows XP Pro SP2 with DirectX 9.0c.

Suggestions?

Hi Ken,

Check that you are using the latest video driver for your graphics card; update it if not.

If you have multiple monitors connected to the graphics card, I would suggest you disable all but one, and possibly lower the resolution on the primary monitor to conserve memory.

The 3-D plot requires sufficient memory on the graphics card. Do you know which video card you are using and how much memory is on it?

Try configuring the graphics card to enable all possible 3-D hardware acceleration. If that doesn't help, try disabling all hardware acceleration.

Unfortunately, the combination of CPU, Windows, Direct X, graphics card and video driver is often hard to get working right...

Regards,

-Paul

I am using the latest driver.

I am running on VMWare Workstation 5.5.1.

The adapter is a VMWare SVGA II 16MB.

I am running a single monitor.

I'm guessing there isn't much more you can do for me?

Hi Ken,

The 16MB of graphics memory is likely the problem. The only thing I can suggest is to try to lower the resolution as much as possible, and reduce number of colors to 16 bit. If this doesn't help, it's because Direct-X needs a lot more video memory to handle 3-D rendering than what's available.

If you can't get 3-D to work, it's not the end of the world, as the 3-D chart is just another (maybe slightly more fun Smiler) way to show the same information as is presented in the 2-D chart. In fact, more information is shown on the 2-D display, so you're not missing much.

Regards,

-Paul

Sorry to dig up this old post, but this is now impacting me too. My primary machine is a MacPro, and I've been doing all my processing in a Vista x64 VM with 4096MB allocated to it. The new VMWare fusion 2.0 beta has support for 3D graphics via DX 9 with Shader Model 2. With it disabled, the 3D Plot screen is simply black, but with this version, it's getting closer to working. You can see the grid in a very dark color and you can move it around properly. There simply isn't any color. I'd love to see this addressed as I only use this application in VMware.

Here is a screenshot of what it looks like:

Thanks!

Hi Chris,

That's certainly not one of the configurations I've tested! Smiler

I would suggest that we wait for Fusion 2.0 to come out of beta to see if the problem still exists. Meanwhile, it may be worth it to report this as a possible bug to VMWare.

Regards,

-Paul
