Would it be possible to modify CCDINSPECTOR so it will work without DriectX ?

A large number of observatories use old laptops, old grpahics cards, ...

In my case I use rdesktop on Linux to access my legacy PC.

It has a VGA board.
Which has nothing plugged into it.

So I can not get it to work, I believe.

Hi Larry,

Only the 3-D feature of CCDInspector requires DirectX. If you can install DirectX libraries on your computer, even if the VGA card doesn't support it, then CCDInspector will run fine on it. The 3-D charts will fail if you try to bring them up, or come up with blank or transparent windows, but the rest of CCDInspector should work fine. You will not be missing much by not having 3-D charts, as the same information (and more) is displayed in 2-D in the Curvature Map chart that works without DirectX.

Regards,

Paul:

yeah but it's cool !!!

I loaded DirectX on my wife's PC and everything works fine there.

Don't tell her.

No I can go through all my old images and discover all the bad things that were going on.

Larry, yes, it is very cool Smiler

It's actually a more intuitive way to visualize what's going on in the image plane. But, the 2-D view contains all of the same information, just color-coded, so it's not as easy to see.

I promise not to tell on you.

-Paul

The Real Problem is I'm running rdesktop from Linux. While it works fine on my wife's computer when I user rdesktop it doesn't work at all (on the linux side).

Quite possibly it also doesn't work using natice XP remote desktop.

Larry,

DirectX uses native graphics card instructions and memory to speed-up and improve 3-D operations. This doesn't translate well at all over a remote connection, Remote Desktop or rdesktop. When accessing CCDI remotely, you may have to resort to the "not-so-cool-but-still-functional" 2-D charts Smiler

-Paul
