I've noticed lately that using the autoscale button in the image display darkens the images much more than necessary. I don't remember this happening in the past. I have to lighten the images significantly to keep the black point from being clipped.

has anyone else noticed this?

From time to time, I have tinkered with the auto-scaling. Unfortunately there is no single algorithm that works for every pic and everyone's taste.

Your description sounds like you may be using a recent but not current version (current version = 1.6.0.4).
