Hi Richard
I am getting totally different results using Version 1 and Version 2 of your calculators.

My guiding image scale is 1.07asp
My Peak to Peak Max error is 0.38
My Maximum Allowable Error is 0.76 (twice the PtP Error)
In Version 1, I get Min Move of 0.008 in Version 2 I get 0.027
For Max Move, I get 0.033 in Version 1 and 0.108 in Version 2

Could you please clarify which is correct?

cheers
Martin

Further to my earlier post...in Version 1, if I change the guider image scale from binned 2x2, to 3x3 (1.07asp to 1.61 asp), the Min and Max move settings do not change...however, in Version 2 of your calculator, the values do change.

Could you also verify which is correct here.

cheers
Martin

Hi Richard..sorry to labour the point....the version you have on the ccdware website is version 2.30.....the link you provided here http://www.ccdware.com/resources/autoguidercalcv2.cfm is Version 2 Beta...I know common sense says that we should use V2.3, but it is somewhat different to V2....which do you recommend?

Thanks

Martin

Hi Richard

I am currently charting some guiding parameters using Direct Guide.

As you know, when you use this option, Min/Max move are specified in arcsecs vice seconds when using camera relays.

However, in the CCDSOFT autoguide log, the relay activation time for X/Y are still specified in hundredths of a second.

I want to try and work out how much a correction in seconds would be in arcsecs so that I can determine whether aggressiveness, Min Move/Max Move are at optimum settings, but having the relay time specified in seconds will not tell me this.

This how I think it could be worked out:

The earth is rotating at 15 degrees/hr. This equates to 15 arcseconds per second, but at a guide rate of 0.5x sidereal, this actually means the mount moves 7.5 arcsec/second. So, to calculate how this relates to a relay activation in seconds, multiply 7.5 by the value in the autoguide log e.g 200 (or 2 seconds) = 7.5 x 2 = 15 arcseconds! But this doesnt seem right at all.

Do you have some thoughts on this?

Martin

Martin,

You can just change the pull down from Direct Guide to Relays on the new Autoguider Calculator and see how seconds translates to arc-seconds.

Hi Richard
Yes, I am aware of that, but what I was after was how I convert the X/Y Relay movement (measured in hundredths of a second) in a CCDSOFT autoguide log to arcsecs.

tks
