Poor Seeing
Posted
To T-Point Users: I have, over many nights, adjusted my permanent pier with T-Point. It now says it is about 1 minute and l minute off for R.A. and dec. - however, every night when I first come out and aim for the first star - the scope always misses it by 20 (twenty) degrees. That's right - 20 degress. Then, I go to the second star for mapping and it musch closer, and then by the third mapping star it is very close, and fine after that. Anyway, how is that the first star can possibly be off that much? Is their some embedded code that I have left on. It is repeatable night after night. One night, I did hit the Sync button (which I don't understand), is that keeping it off? Let me know what you think. Thanks, Bob Caton

Dear Self: I have figured out the problem. On each night I have slewed the telescope to the first star, which is not exactly correct, then made the corrections, and then hit synch. On each following night, the star kept getting closer. I have done the synch control now for five nights in a row, and now the star is always on the screen, and just about perfectly centered. I think that the problem was that I needed to synch over multiple nights to give the program more data. I think it now only off about one minute when I take a CCD photo. It is getting so accurate that the first slew will show up the star on the CCD focus screen with a SBIG 10 XME. Anyway, thank you for solving your own problem. Thanks, Bob
